The session will be informal and interactive, with ample time for your questions.  The briefing will be limited to 15 participants and will cover the following topics: 

What is protected by a patent and who may obtain one

The requirements for patentability and rights encompassed by a patent

How a patent is infringed and available defenses

How patent protection may be obtained outside the United States

Mark Your Calendar for the Fall Seminar on November 6 & 7, 2009, Nashville, Tennessee.  Dana Perry will be presenting Elder Law 101: Navigating the Long-Term Care Maze on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 10:15 a.m. CST.  This seminar will be held at Embassy Suites, 1811 Broadway, Nashville, Tennessee, in Titan Room A&B.

Rosemarie Bryan will speak at the Chattanooga Area Dental Society's program at the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. 

Her presentation will be entitled "Employment Laws that Impact Your Practice and How to Lessen  that Impact". This seminar is designed to help your practice avoid lawsuits and costly agency claims of discrimination or retaliation. It also aims to assist you in identifying “red flag” issues in your day-to-day hiring, termination, promotion, complaint handling, and wage decisions.  

The presentation will include a brief review of important Tennessee and federal employment laws about which Tennessee employers must be aware.  It will include issues such as discrimination or harassment based on gender, age, race, ethnic background, religion, and physical and mental disabilities.

The discussion will also touch on wage and leave issues, including overtime/exempt versus nonexempt employees, and family medical leave requirements.

Lawyers from Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee partnered with Street Law to launch Chattanooga's inauguaral diversity pipeline program in 2008. This year, we are happy to once again participate in this program.

The Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program partners corporate legal departments with nearby, diverse high school law classes in an effort to engage the students, teach them more about civil law, and encourage them to consider careers in the legal profession.  This program is a national partnership between Street Law and the Association of Corporate Counsel.

Brainerd High School will be visiting with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel on November 12, 2009.  Topics chosen this year are:

• Criminal/Constitutional Law - Tom Greenholtz, Jeff Granillo and Mark Hooton
• Employee/Labor Law - Kathi Grant Willis, Tena Roberson and Celeste Bradley
