The Supreme Court of Tennessee is holding a ceremonial session for the unveiling of a portrait of retired Chief Justice William M. Barker on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, 1:00 p.m. (EST) at the Hamilton County Courthouse, 625 Georgia Avenue, Room 402, Chattanooga, Tennessee.  A reception will follow in the Courthouse Rotunda.

Greg Willett has been invited by the local chapter of NAIFA to speak at their luncheon on January 20, 2010.  Greg will be speaking on the importance of estate planning, a roll of insurance in the estate plan, the current status of taxation, etc.

Tim Gibbons will be speaking on Preparing a Client (and yourself) for Mediation at the Tennessee Bar Association's Construction Law Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee, on January 22, 2010.

Members of the Chattanooga Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association, the Chattanooga History Center and the Chattanooga Area Historical Association are invited to a reception to be held Tuesday, April 27, at the Chattanooga Theatre Center celebrating the unveiling of a piece of art that is important to the U.S. District Court and to Chattanoogans.  The hours are 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The program will include a brief talk by Ellen Simak, chief curator of Chattanooga’s Hunter Museum of American Art, who will discuss the mural in context with other mural art of the 1930s and the public art process in general.

Chief U.S. District Judge Curtis L. Collier and U.S. District Judge Harry S. Mattice will preside, along with Knoxville lawyer Arthur G. Seymour, president of the U.S. District Court Historical Society.

On June 8th, Health Care Litigation Attorney Alix Michel will speak to 26 students from 16 different public and private high schools on "Medicine and the Law: Practice Pointers".

The Forum is designed for high school juniors and seniors to learn more about life as a physician and encourage them to consider a career in medicine.  It also provides education and mentoring opportunities for the students and local physicians.  The overall goal of the program is to increase the pipeline of health care providers in Southeastern Tennessee. 

This is Alix Michel's second year to speak at the Forum.

Alicia Oliver will attend the fifth annual Diversity Summit in Chicago.  The Diversity Summit will bring together NALP and ALFDP members, law firm partners, in-house lawyers, law school deans, industry consultants, and other legal career professionals who have an interest in continuing to expand the diversity of the practice of law. The chief purpose of this exciting conference is to provide a forum for a robust exchange of information about the current challenges and innovations surrounding the issue of diversity in the legal employment arena.
