News and Developments in Health Care Law

April 13, 2010

By: Mark A. Cunningham, Douglas S. Griswold

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010.  Along with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (signed into law on March 30, 2010), PPACA sets forth the health care reform agenda of the President and Congress.  While much of the media attention has focused on PPACA’s comprehensive provisions relating to health care delivery and access, PPACA also makes significant changes to the health care fraud and abuse laws.  One such change is the addition of a new patient disclosure requirement to the in-office ancillary services exception to the Stark Law.
