The Tennessee Lawful Employment Act of 2011

Designed to combat illegal immigration and the employment of illegal workers, Tennessee recently enacted the Lawful Employment Act of 2011 (SB 1669; HB 1378). The Act, which becomes effective in stages beginning January 1, 2012, has been described as “one of the strongest if not the strongest E-Verify laws in the country,” and was opposed by numerous business groups.
