Now Available: Revised “Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law” Poster

By:  Justin L. Furrow and Daniel B. Gilmore

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has released its revised “Equal Employment Opportunity is the Law” poster, which is now posted on its website.  The new poster reflects the current federal discrimination laws, including the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), which becomes effective November 21, 2009.

Employers are required by Federal law to post notices describing the Federal laws prohibiting job discrimination based on race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, equal pay, disability and genetic information.  Up to 10 copies of the poster, which are available in English, Arabic, Chinese, and Spanish, may be ordered directly from the EEOC’s website: http://eeoc.gov/posterform.html.  The website also includes information for purchasing more than 10 copies.

The EEOC offers other ways for employers to comply with the law:

  • Print a supplement from the agency’s website (http://www.eeoc.gov/gina_supplement.pdf) and post it alongside the EEOC’s September 2002 “EEO is the Law” poster or the OFCCP’s August 2008 “EEO is the Law” poster

  • Print EEOC’s November 2009 version of the “EEO is the Law” poster and post it (http://www.eeoc.gov/self_print_poster.pdf)

  • Order a new poster through the EEOC Clearinghouse. The poster is on backorder and will be shipped when the poster becomes available.
